Client: Fluoro
Creative Firm: housemouse - Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne magazine Fluoro is a designer's design magazine, and local design firm housemouse made sure that its "pride and joy" inspired people like they themselves had been. "[It is] design inspiration for anyone and everyone who would gain inspiration from a magazine like Fluoro by pushing the boundaries of print and design," the agency says.
With the pilot issue, Fluoro5, housemouse made it a priority to make the publication "inspire, push boundaries and deliver an experience like no other," a task achieved by pushing its creators' own boundaries to make a magazine they as designers would enjoy as well. Details such as foiling and fine detail on the front cover, then carried through to the very last page, took design elements and presented them as a collective personality.
Distributed with 9,000 copies of Design Quarterly magazine throughout Australia and around the world, Fluoro5 invited readers to "enter the unique world of Fluoro and show off the design caliber that comes out of Australia." The sourcing, too, had its own local stamp, reports housemouse: "Fluoro5 is based around the city of Melbourne and is reflective of the expressive elements that the [design] team love about their city." housemouse says that the designers kept in mind the long-term effect of their work when designing the physical magazine itself. "In the mind of the designers, when paper stocks and inks were selected and features were designed, the importance of environmentally sustainable practices within a variety of design industries had to be highlighted."
